Scholarship Committees
January 18th, 2008
Probably the best method to finance your education in college is by getting a scholarship. You must remember the criteria that all selection committees employ in awarding scholarships. So there exist two kinds of scholarships available, they are the following: first need-based and the second is the merit-based one. Need-based ones are awarded founded on financial need. But merit-based ones, by contrast, are given to those who have already distinguished themselves in some of the following fields.
Academics
Almost each scholarship involves a degree of academic attainment. Scholarship committees wish to ensure applicants can handle the severity of college. And they will watch your combination of indicators (as a rule GPAs plus test scores) and get rid of applicants who fall beneath a definite cutoff point.
Leadership
Leadership implies that a person has the inspiration, independence, and skill to make projects and lead the rest. So while your leadership can be exposed in different ways, scholarship committees generally concentrate on extracurricular activities and work experience. Committees have a tendency to search for applicants who can work fine with different people, including teachers, and administrators, and co-workers, and employers, or even a variety of government or civic organizations.
Creativity
Every scholarship committee highly value applicants with creativity and personality. Creativity can be exposed by an applicant’s skill to play some musical instrument or sing, or, maybe, draw. Applicants can show their creativity with the help of less conventional means like graphic design or auto repair, or computer programming. And the vital thing is to show that you are unique and attractive.
Physical Fitness
While universities as well as colleges do provide scholarships solely on account of physical fitness – typically to outstanding student-athletes – lots of scholarships have a sort of physical-fitness element. As with creativity, scholarship committees are in search of applicants who are already well-rounded – and this comprises physically fitness. However, this does not imply you must be star athlete; it only means that you need to show a commitment your health and fitness, maybe by jogging regularly, or by taking part in some sort of intramural sport, and even coming to work by bicycle.
