HOPE Scholarship Programs

HOPE means “helping outstanding pupils educationally”. So this scholarship program is a very famous, high valued and unique scholarship of Georgia. As the name implies, its aim is to assist the outstanding students that study in the private and in the public colleges. This scholarship was founded in 1993. The state of Georgia has since that time been followed by many of other states, because these have implemented many scholarships with the same purpose. Statistics shows that about one million people have been provided with this scholarship to pay for their study. However, Diploma, Certificate, as well as Degree programs also get this scholarship, that is available for students who study half-time and full-time.

The program is completely merit-based, implying that ability of a student to finance his/her education in college is not a thing in determining if a student receives it.

The main requirements are:
The applicant resides in the state of Georgia. Then, the student has a 3.0 (GPA ‘B average’). Plus the student maintains his/her 3.0 GPA in college.

Students that enroll for any half-time program can obtain tax credit for about $1500 during their first two years of college education. During their first year they may get tax credit for about $1000 for their tuition fees paid plus $500 for their second year. This sums to about $1500 in their tax credit. Therefore the credit must be got during two years. A lot of students that enroll for studying half-time have taken advantage out of this scholarship. So the credit is available on each-student basis.

For the students studying full-time this scholarship provides full tuition fees as well as other fees which are applicable throughout the admission. An allowance for around $300 is available. However, expenses like room or board are not paid in this.
